Building on Norway’s strengths

Norway is known for its natural beauty, for its commitment to responsible business practice and sustainability, and for high quality. The Made in Norway label was established to capitalise on these positive associations and enhance the competitiveness of Norwegian products and services on the international market.

Criteria for using the origin label

To be eligible to use the Made in Norway label, companies must fulfil the following criteria:

  • The product or service satisfies the origin requirements.
  • The company conducts risk assessments to avoid adverse impacts on people, society and the environment resulting from its operations.
  • The company has an internal control system in place for responsibly handling any identified risk of adverse impacts on people, society and the environment.
  • The company has ethical guidelines.
  • The product or service contributes to advancing at least one of the UN Sustainable Development Goals without causing any significant harm in relation to the six environmental objectives of the EU Taxonomy.

Industry-specific origin criteria

Nutrition

Example: Food and beverages, dietary supplements
  • At least 80% of the weight of the finished product must come from Norway.
  • An essential processing step must take place in Norway.

Manufactured/finished goods

Example: Furniture, textiles, sensors
  • At least 60 percent of manufacturing and raw material costs must have Norwegian origin.
  • An essential manufacturing step must take place in Norway.

Services

Example: Software, digital solutions
  • At least 60 percent of the costs for developing and delivering the service must have Norwegian origin.

Natural products

Example: Wool, timber, unprocessed meat
  • 100 percent of the natural product must be grown, extracted, or bred in Norway.
