LK Hjelle: Furniture designed to last − and Made in Norway

Published 3 Dec 2025 · 3 min read

From its home in Sykkylven, Norway, family-owned LK Hjelle has been designing and crafting furniture built to last since 1940.

The company continues to create designs that make a positive impact on people’s lives, while striving to keep its environmental footprint as small as possible.

Now, LK Hjelle has been awarded the official Made in Norway label.

The Made in Norway label is a powerful symbol that confirms what we have been doing for 85 years: producing high-quality furniture in Sykkylven with passion and integrity.

Highlighting Norwegian heritage with the Made in Norway label

“Long-lasting love since 1940.” It’s not just a slogan – it’s reality for LK Hjelle. For more than eight decades, the family business has been creating furniture in Sykkylven that people truly cherish – pieces designed to last a lifetime. The vision is simple: no one should ever wish, or need, to discard an LK Hjelle product.

“For us, it’s about more than just products – we want to continue making a positive difference in people’s lives while minimising our environmental impact,” says Jens Peter Brunstad.

That is why the company proudly embraces Norway’s official origin label, showcasing its commitment to local production with care for both people and planet.

Motivation for using the Made in Norway label

In a marketplace dominated by mass production in low-cost countries, LK Hjelle aims to stand apart. The Made in Norway certification is a mark of quality and authenticity that appeals to customers who value Scandinavian design, honest origins and sustainable manufacturing.

By using the Made in Norway label, LK Hjelle wants to make consumers more aware of the true origin of their products.

“At the same time, it gives us the opportunity to build trust and confidence around both the quality and the production process – something that is vital for customers who demand honesty and environmental responsibility,” says Brunstad.

The market for LK Hjelle’s products

LK Hjelle furniture can be found in private homes and public spaces alike, both in Norway and abroad. With significant growth potential in international markets, the company sees Norwegian production as a clear competitive advantage – making the Made in Norway label a natural fit.

“At the same time, research shows that many people are not aware that our furniture is made in Norway. That’s something we intend to change – and Made in Norway will be a central part of that effort,” says Brunstad.

Showcasing local production

LK Hjelle has ambitious plans to increase turnover in the years ahead, both in established and new markets. Being part of the certification scheme is an important step in this journey, clearly communicating to customers where and how their furniture is made.

“The Made in Norway label gives us a valuable opportunity to highlight our local production, fully in line with Norwegian quality standards. That’s why it will play a central role in our marketing going forward,” says Brunstad.
