Both Japan and Norway are navigating the transition in volatile global energy markets. We are complimentary where Japan, heavily reliant on imported fossil fuels, is accelerating its efforts to diversify its energy mix and Norway positioning itself as a global supplier of low carbon energy based on green electrons and blue molecules.Our complementarily meets in developing and deploying frontier energy areas such as offshore wind and ammonia value chain.This session will address the global challenges and importance of cooperation between same-minded and less political volatile nations to reach common goals.

15:45-16:45 Accelerating offshore wind collaboration

Japan has recently opened its huge Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) for harvesting one of the world's most promising offshore wind energy sources, most of this from floating offshore wind. Whereas Japan has very little experience from domestic offshore industry, Norway can complement with 50 years of offshore oil and gas and 15 years of floating offshore wind projects. This session will address current and growing collaboration on regulatory, technological, efficiency and economic aspects of floating wind development.

17:15-18:15 Low-carbon energy value chains

Whereas Japan has been the driver over the last 20 years for global hydrogen and ammonia value chains to lower its carbon footprint, Norway is exploiting its production and export capacity for green and blue low carbon energy. Although a direct supply chain from Norway and Japan seems unlikely right now, this seminar will address collaboration of supporting technologies, including production, transport and storage and downstream utilization of these low carbon molecules.

Norway and Japan have a long-standing history of international maritime and space cooperation in research, technology, and business development. This session will raise awareness among both the Norwegian and Japanese authorities and stakeholders about our cooperation, common interests, and future opportunities for joint activities from deep ocean to deep space. With the recent geopolitical situation, it is highly important to develop close relationship with like-minded countries, like Norway and Japan, to enhance security and resilience of critical infrastructure.

There are severe changes and unpredictability in the world today, both due to geopolitics and climate changes.

This creates demands for new understanding, new analysis and new solutions.

This session focuses on the protection of critical infrastructure,such as ports, ships, communication solutions, energy and monitoring infrastructure, etc., and enhancement of maritime surveillance services and the integration of various sensors and data sources to detect and monitor maritime activities.

We hope to highlight the commonalities between Japan and Norway in this domain and the opportunities for collaboration and working together in order to address today's security challenges.
