Decon-X has developed a new disinfection method with no harmful chemicals for removing microbes from all surfaces and equipment in a closed area.
According to WHO, 1.27 million deaths were caused by infections due to antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in 2019.This is projected to rise to 10 million deaths by 2050.
Healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) cost Europe over EUR 7 billion each year and the US over USD 34 billion. In high-income countries, more than one third of ICU patients contract HAIs, leading to over 37 000 deaths annually in Europe. In Norway more than 35 000 patients are infected each year, many with fatal outcomes.
The founder of Decon-X International survived an HAI, which led to the establishment of the company in 2014. Ever since, Decon-X has taken a leading role in combating these challenges.
The process is fully automated and monitored by sensors and software, ensuring consistent results and traceable documentation. The process takes one to four hours, and users can track the live progress via Decon-X’s customer portal and receive confirmation when disinfection is complete, and the room is verified safe for re-entry.
The disinfection robots are designed for use in hospitals, ambulances, veterinary clinics, food production facilities and other hygiene-critical environments. The Decon-X robots are available in the form of mobile units (DX1, DX2 and DX1F) and as a fixed installation (DX3) which is suitable for larger areas and production facilities.
The Decon-X systems are available as a full-service subscription model where technology, consumables, service and support are delivered to the end-user based upon a monthly fee.
Decon-X’s robots offer a fast, no-touch disinfection method that is both effective and environment-friendly, replacing the need for toxic chemicals. By automating the disinfection process, Decon-X frees up valuable time that healthcare workers can use on patients and provides round-the-clock availability.
Moreover, the disinfection robots are developed and manufactured in Norway, ensuring the highest quality. They are certified according to NS-EN 17272:2020, the European standard for automated room disinfection.
MARKET POTENTIAL
There is strong and growing demand for reliable disinfection in hospitals, nursing
homes, veterinary clinics and food production facilities. There are already over 350 Decon-X disinfection robots in use across Northern Europe.
The company is headquartered in Oslo, Norway, and has partners in Denmark, Germany, Spain and Sweden.
The Norwegian food research institute Nofima has trialled the technology in a 30-month long scientific study. The study was published internationally and confirmed that Decon-X removes listeria from food production facilities and equipment.
“With the robot, we save time and staff. One person can prepare a room in five minutes, and then Decon-X takes care of the rest.”
