Quick information

At a glance

  • Car-e-bike for sustainable door-to-door transport
  • Can be used in bike lanes, minimal parking needs
  • Cost-effective travel for city dwellers and tourists

CityQ is a four-wheel electric bike with enclosed seating and cargo space, providing an attractive solution for urban mobility.

Automobile traffic is on the rise, placing a significant strain on existing city infrastructure. The expansion of bike lanes has proven to reduce congestion, noise pollution, fuel consumption and associated emissions.

However, even though half of all car trips are shorter than 5 km, cycling is not always a feasible alternative. Some drivers may be unable to use a bike, and some require space for cargo or an additional passenger. Under adverse weather conditions, even avid cyclists may opt for the convenience of an automobile.

Making car-e-bikes a practical option

CityQ is an enclosed car-e-bike with space for baggage and up to two passengers. CityQ comes both as a personal car-e-bike with side doors as well as a cargo e-bike. The vehicle provides fully electric pedal assist, with a battery range of 60–100 km. Solar panels may provide additional range. CityQ’s on-board computer uses the Internet of Things (IoT) to connect with a cloud-based server, providing smart driving assistance, diagnostics and remote upgrades. A smartphone driving app displays a navigation dashboard, enabling features such as unlocking for rental and ride-sharing. CityQ weighs just 70 kg, and has a load capacity of up to 250 kg.

Concrete benefits

City drivers are increasingly turning to “micro-mobility” options for their daily commute. CityQ merges the advantages of cycling with better user accessibility and all-weather protection, thus relieving road congestion and reducing greenhouse gas emissions from motor vehicles. The vehicle is modular and can be customised to meet operator requirements.

Market potential

Cycling has become an increasingly desirable alternative to motor traffic. The global e-bike market was valued at USD 16.3 billion in 2017, and is expected to reach USD 23.8 billion by 2025.

Moreover, traditional vehicle ownership is transitioning rapidly to Mobility as a Service (MaaS). The global MaaS market was valued at USD 24.1 billion in 2018, and is expected to reach over USD 200 billion by the end of 2025. CityQ’s IoT cloud software enables ride sharing and rentals, with potential for autonomous operations.

CityQ will be commercially available in 2021.
