Norway enables the hydrogen economy and low-carbon society globally
Norway uses multiple renewable energy sources to produce clean green hydrogen through electrolysis. Norway also produces clean blue hydrogen and ammonia from natural gas combined with carbon capture and storage (CCS).
Norway has produced and utilised hydrogen for nearly a century. Norway has expertise in electrolysers, storage and distribution technologies, as well as in safety-related technology and CCS solutions.
Norway has been operating a natural gas grid to Europe since the 1980s and is a partner in the European Hydrogen Backbone initiative for new hydrogen infrastructure. Norway is also working to develop and operationalise hydrogen corridors to supply maritime and heavy truck transport.
With the current level of energy feedstock, Norway will have an excess supply of clean hydrogen and its exports will support decarbonisation of various emitters in Europe and globally.
Norwegian stakeholders work systematically to improve the safety and reliability of hydrogen solutions and infrastructure.
