Seagarden brings Norwegian marine ingredients to global nutraceuticals
Published 25 Sep 2026 · 3 min read
From its headquarters and production facility in Avaldsnes, Karmøy, Seagarden develops marine powders and collagen products derived from residual raw materials from the Norwegian seafood industry.
For Seagarden, Norwegian origin is more than a geographical marker. It is closely linked to high-quality raw materials, strict standards for food safety and a culture built on traceability, responsibility and long-term thinking.
These qualities are increasingly important in a global ingredients market where customers want to understand both what a product contains and how it is made.
Now the company’s Seacoll® Norwegian Salmon collagen products and other ingredients produced from Norwegian salmon have been awarded the Made in Norway label.
“The Made in Norway label strengthens our ability to communicate the qualities international customers are looking for: trust, consistency and responsible production. ”

From fish extract to premium marine collagen
Seagarden was established as a producer of fish extract for human consumption and has since developed into a manufacturer of high-quality marine ingredients for global markets. The company’s development has included investments in marine powder production and the establishment of marine collagen production.
This evolution reflects a broader ambition: to create more value from existing marine resources. By making use of by-products from the seafood industry, including fish skin, Seagarden contributes to more efficient use of raw materials and more broadly to the circular economy.
“Our development has always been about finding new ways to create more value from existing marine resources. Innovation and resource efficiency go hand in hand,” says Øivind Aasland Håkonsen.
Norwegian origin as a mark of quality
Norwegian seafood, and salmon in particular, is widely recognised internationally for its superior taste and texture, food safety and sustainability. This reputation is a boon for Seagarden, as the quality of marine collagen begins with the raw materials. The Made in Norway label enables the company to communicate clearly the value of Norwegian provenance in a large and competitive global market.
“We are proud to develop the premium Seacoll® collagen products from Norwegian salmon, based on sustainable raw materials and processes that deliver both nutrition and trust,” he says.

Positioned for growing global nutraceutical market
The global market for marine-based collagen is growing, driven in particular by demand from the nutraceutical industry and by trends related to health, beauty and more sustainable ingredient use. As consumers and industrial customers place greater value on transparency and responsible sourcing, the ability to document origin and quality is becoming increasingly important.

Here the Seacoll® Norwegian Salmon collagen ingredients stand out, crafted as they are from fish of documented quality and traceable origin.
“Quality today is about more than the final product. It also includes transparency, documentation and confidence in the supply chain,” says Aasland Håkonsen.
As global competition increases, Seagarden also sees trust, consistency and reliability as important advantages. In this context, Norwegian origin adds value by helping customers understand not only the product itself, but also the standards, resources and responsible production practices behind it.
“The Made in Norway label helps communicate the values that are already embedded in our products,” he concludes.
