Matre is contributing to transforming the Norwegian furniture industry by relaunching iconic design classics while championing a new generation of Norwegian design talent.
Now awarded the Made in Norway label, Matre carries on Norwegian furniture design tradition, with quality craftsmanship, sustainable local production and pieces of exceptional quality and longevity.
“Norwegian production and a local value chain are important drivers in everything we do. The Made in Norway label communicates this better than almost anything else – it is effective communication, both in Norway and internationally, and a quality stamp we carry with pride.”
Frode Karlsen
CEO of Matre
Matre is a Norwegian furniture brand with a clear mission: to relaunch iconic design classics while nurturing new Norwegian design talent. Founded with a deep commitment to quality, craftsmanship and manufacturing in Norway, the company is working to bring Norwegian furniture design back to the international stage.
Matre is dedicated to delivering exceptional quality and traceability, as well as contributing to local value creation and preservation of Norwegian craftsmanship traditions.
The company’s portfolio spans both relaunched design classics and new collections developed in collaboration with emerging Norwegian designers. This dual focus allows Matre to honour Norway's rich furniture design heritage while showcasing what contemporary Norwegian design has to offer on both the domestic and international market.
“Our goal is to help to restore the Norwegian furniture industry and bring Norwegian design back onto the international arena. We believe that quality, craftsmanship and a transparent local value chain are not just values – they are a competitive advantage,” says CEO Frode Karlsen.

Across Norway and Europe, retail consumers are placing growing importance on transparency and product origin with increasing willingness to pay a premium for high-quality, durable and sustainably produced goods.
Matre serves the contract market as well, where interior architects and specifiers are increasingly being measured on the origin and sustainability of the products they specify.
“In a market where we are a smaller player, origin, quality and sustainability are key differentiators for us – and the Made in Norway label strengthens all of them while making our communication clearer and more effective,” says Karlsen.

Matre will use the Made in Norway label as broadly as possible across all communication, both in Norway and internationally. The label will be present throughout the entire customer experience, from digital platforms and in-store sales staff to product packaging. It will also be used actively in communication towards the contract market and interior architects.
"We want to use the Made in Norway label as much as possible in our communication – it is a stamp of quality we carry with pride. Our ambition is to bring Norwegian design back into the international arena, and the Made in Norway label is an integral part of how we communicate that ambition to the world," concludes Karlsen.
