Guidant Measurement Systems delivers trusted fiscal measurement solutions to the global energy industry

Published 7 Oct 2026 · 4 min read

Energy changes hands, travels across vast distances and moves through complex facilities. But how do you know that the volume being measured is accurate?

Precision is critical when buying and selling large energy volumes and documenting these transactions, as even minor deviations can have major financial and operational ramifications.

Located in the technology hub of Kongsberg, Guidant Measurement Systems develops advanced systems for fiscal measurement and custody transfer, providing energy companies with traceable measurement results, safe operations and enhanced control throughout the entire lifecycle of their facilities.

Now, SigmaX, Guidant’s next-generation control system platform, has been awarded the Made in Norway label.

“In Kongsberg, we develop measurement systems for energy flows where precision, safety and documentation are not optional. The Made in Norway label highlights the Norwegian expertise and quality behind every delivery.”

Building on decades of expertise in advanced energy technologies

Guidant Measurement Systems can trace its roots to the establishment of oil-related activities at Kongsberg Våpenfabrikk in 1974. In 2024, it was spun off from TechnipFMC in Kongsberg, and became an independent division of Guidant Measurement, operating under the name Measurement Solutions Norway AS.

Today, Guidant Measurement Systems has 57 employees and uses its decades of expertise in metrology, system integration and automation to develop advanced measurement and control systems. It seeks to position Kongsberg as an international centre of excellence for fiscal measurement, automation and digital solutions, while expanding into new energy segments.

Precise measurements that stand up to scrutiny

Whenever energy products change ownership, fiscal measurements and custody transfer must be accurate. Whether energy is transported through pipelines, handled at terminals or produced offshore, even minor discrepancies can have major financial consequences.

In Kongsberg, Guidant develops, engineers, integrates and tests its solutions, which may comprise complete measurement systems, control and automation solutions, flow computing, software and associated engineering services.

The systems are tailored to each customer’s process medium, capacity, accuracy requirements, regulatory framework and operating environment, and are delivered for offshore applications.

“Measurement technology is about far more than recording a number. Customers depend on reliable information to document transactions, satisfy regulatory requirements and operate their facilities safely and efficiently,” says Lasse Andre Karlsen, Manager Control Systems at Guidant Measurement Systems.

SigmaX brings measurement and control together

SigmaX, Guidant’s next-generation control system platform, has been awarded the Made in Norway label. The platform combines measurement, monitoring, PLC functionality and control in a modern, scalable software environment.

SigmaX can be used in smaller standalone systems as well as large, distributed control and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems for both offshore and land-based facilities. It is also the starting point for a broader product family spanning software, flow computing, edge technology, simulation and digital services.

“With SigmaX, we bring together functions that have traditionally been spread across multiple systems into a single platform. This gives customers greater flexibility, better visibility and a strong foundation for further digitalisation,” says Karlsen.

A single partner throughout the entire project lifecycle

Guidant’s customers benefit from a single partner that takes responsibility for the entire process, from concept development and detailed engineering to integration, testing, commissioning and service.

Its solutions are designed for applications where measurement accuracy, uptime, safety and traceability are critical to both operational performance and financial outcomes.

From oil and gas to emerging energy segments

Guidant Measurement Systems currently delivers solutions to energy projects in Norway and internationally. Its core markets include oil and gas, LNG, refineries, terminals, pipelines and offshore production facilities. The company is also moving into growth areas such as hydrogen, carbon capture and storage (CCS), biofuels, and other energy and industrial processes with stringent requirements for accurate measurement and control.

The company’s customers include energy companies, operators, EPC contractors, system integrators and facility owners. Its solutions reduce uncertainty in commercial transactions, support regulatory compliance and reporting requirements, provide greater visibility into production and transmission processes, and contribute to safe and efficient operations.

Norwegian expertise as a competitive advantage

The Made in Norway label confirms Guidant Measurement Systems’ strong roots in Norway, which places the company close to some of the world’s harshest offshore and energy environments, where rigorous quality standards and a strong culture of documentation and continuous improvement are essential.

Moreover, Guidant is located in Kongsberg, a hub where technological expertise has been amassed over decades.

“For generations, Kongsberg has been one of Norway’s most important technology hubs. We continue to build on that expertise as we develop systems for some of the world’s most demanding energy applications,” says Sverre Smemo.

“What truly sets us apart is our combination of decades of experience, comprehensive systems expertise, and the ability to modernise traditional metering technology through software, virtualisation and remote support,” he concludes.
