Flokk & Fjell: Handcrafted acoustic solutions from Norwegian wool, Made in Norway

Flokk & Fjell was established in 2023 by architect Annemieke, with a vision of developing acoustic solutions that function not only as a technical product, but as an integrated part of interior design as well. The company combines modern design with traditional craftsmanship. All production takes place in Norway with a strong focus on quality, storytelling and local transformation.

What makes Flokk & Fjell’s products unique is the company’s commitment to natural materials – all panels are made from locally sourced Norwegian wool without any additives or binding agents, and the production process is minimally energy intensive. The company communicates the stories behind the raw materials as part of the product experience.

“Our vision is to contribute to better sound environments and more beautiful spaces, while supporting Norwegian and local value creation. We want to make Norwegian-produced solutions a natural choice in both public and private projects,” says Erik Koopmans.

For Flokk & Fjell, choosing to incorporate the Made in Norway label was a natural step in its journey to highlight what sets the compnay apart: Norwegian natural materials, local craftsmanship and transparent production. Flokk & Fjell first learned about the label through Kunnskapsparken Vestland, where it is an incubator company, and through its partner Omgi.

“We want to be part of a network of Norwegian producers who promote quality, local production and sustainability. The label is already well known in the markets we operate in, and will help to give us a clear quality stamp,” says Koopmans.

The market for acoustic solutions is growing, and the industry is in the midst of a transition away from unsustainable materials and production processes. Modern architecture with large open spaces and hard surfaces increases the need for effective acoustic solutions, creating significant opportunities for innovative companies like Flokk & Fjell.

Flokk & Fjell’s acoustic panels are primarily sold to architecture and design professionals in the Norwegian market, with ambitions to expand across the Nordic region. While competing products are often imported and have unknown origins and questionable sustainability credentials, Flokk & Fjell offers a unique alternative rooted in Norwegian craftsmanship and complete material transparency.

“Our customers value transparency and quality, and the Made in Norway label helps us to build trust in a market often dominated by imported products of unknown origin. We see great opportunities for differentiation through clear profiling of origin and quality – and significant potential as we expand into the broader Nordic market,” says Koopmans.

Flokk & Fjell will proudly display the Made in Norway label across product labels, websites, catalogues, showrooms and marketing materials – both digital and physical. The label will serve as a visible confirmation that each and every acoustic panel is designed, crafted and manufactured in Norway using locally sourced natural materials.

“We will integrate the Made in Norway label as a core part of our brand identity – a quality stamp that demonstrates why Norwegian natural materials and craftsmanship belong in modern architecture and design.
