Corvus Energy is a pioneer in the development of batteries for ships. The company relocated its headquarters from Vancouver, Canada to Bergen, Norway in 2019. This has proven to be a highly successful strategic move.
In 2015, the world’s first electric ferry, Ampere, was launched in Norway, powered by batteries from Corvus Energy.
In 2019, recognising the growing market for batteries for maritime use, Corvus Energy decided to move its factory and headquarters to Bergen. This relocation aimed to better serve the Norwegian market and be closer to customers, as Norway was ready to transition from traditional diesel fuel to zero-emission solutions. Today, Corvus Energy has delivered to more than 1 300 projects globally.
Norway continues to lead the way in the transition to zero-emission solutions for ships. The maritime battery industry has seen impressive growth, and Corvus Energy is supplying 42 MWh batteries to the world’s largest all-electric vessel, which will operate between Argentina and Uruguay.
In addition, Corvus Energy has expanded into the hydrogen fuel cell market through a collaboration with Toyota to develop advanced fuel cells for maritime use.
The successful relocation from Canada to Norway was facilitated by effective teamwork within Team Norway. Key players included the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Canada and Innovation Norway’s offices in Canada, Oslo and Bergen.
Invest in Bergen played a crucial role on the ground, assisting Corvus Energy in selecting the site for its factory and offices in Bergen. Vestland county and Innovation Norway Vestland also provided valuable support throughout the process.
