Ballstad Omega-3 and Salmon Collagen are premium products, Made in Norway

Published 5 Nov 2025 (updated 23 Oct 2026) · 4 min read

Norway has a longstanding tradition of consuming fish oil and collagen.

Born in the heart of the Lofoten Islands, the company knows what it takes to create its premium Ballstad Omega-3 and Salmon Collagen products of the highest quality.

All products are certified by the Friend of the Sea organisation and proudly carry the Made in Norway label – a testament to their origin in sustainable fisheries and Norwegian production.

“The Made in Norway label represents quality, purity and sustainability – values that perfectly align with our philosophy. Being able to document our Norwegian origin gives us a unique advantage in a competitive market and builds trust with consumers.”

Ballstad Omega-3 and Salmon Collagen are made from Norwegian fish

Ballstad is a Norwegian company committed to delivering pure, sustainable and high-quality supplements made from Norwegian fish. Its product range – including Ballstad Omega-3 and Ballstad Salmon Collagen – is developed with a focus on simplicity, natural ingredients and responsible production.

For Ballstad, quality always comes first.

“Our commitment to quality and freshness is reflected in every product we offer. From our purest salmon collagen to our high-performance omega-3, we take pride in delivering only the very best from Norway’s natural resources,” says Odd Roar Olsen.

A story rooted in Ballstad, told on film

The brand has also brought its Norwegian roots to life in the film “Dæ ska vær ordntlig – The Ballstad Story”, shot in Ballstad in the Lofoten Islands. In the film, founder Odd Roar Olsen visits the village with Norwegian TV personality Arne Hjeltnes. Together, they explore its fishing traditions, meet the people who live there and reflect on the values behind Ballstad Omega-3 and Salmon Collagen. The title draws on a Northern Norwegian expression meaning that things should be done properly - a fitting description of the brand’s attention to detail, quality and freshness.

Four distinctive qualities behind Ballstad

Made in Norway

Norwegian production and the Made in Norway origin label sit at the heart of the brand, connecting its products to local expertise and a strong maritime tradition.

Pure, fresh and only one ingredient

Ballstad focuses on carefully controlled ingredients and formulations. Its salmon collagen is made from a single ingredient, hydrolysed salmon collagen peptides, while its omega-3 is produced with close attention to purity and freshness.

Plastic-free packaging

The brand highlights plastic-free packaging solutions in its product presentation and continues to focus on reducing unnecessary packaging. Packaging materials vary by product and format.

Refillable storage containers

Ballstad offers reusable storage formats and refills, intended to make everyday use convenient while limiting the need to replace the storage container with each purchase.

Ballstad is committed to showcasing its Norwegian origin

Norwegian origin is a vital part of Ballstad’s its brand identity and value creation.

“The Made in Norway label represents quality, purity and sustainability – values that perfectly align with our philosophy. Being able to document our Norwegian origin gives us a unique advantage in a competitive market and builds trust with consumers,” says Olsen.

Independent testing for athletes and active consumers

Ballstad Omega-3 and Ballstad Salmon Collagen have also achieved Informed Sport certification. Under this independent programme, every batch of a certified product is tested for banned substances before market release. The additional checks help athletes and active consumers make more informed supplement choices and reduce the risk of inadvertent doping through contamination.

The market for Ballstad’s products

Ballstad’s products are sold both domestically and internationally, with a strong focus on markets such as Germany, Thailand, Singapore and Turkey.

“Consumers are increasingly looking for clean, sustainable and traceable products, and the Made in Norway label helps us to clearly communicate these values. The challenge lies in standing out in a global market full of competitors, and the label gives us a strong competitive edge,” says Olsen.

The Ballstad story film and Informed Sport milestone add two further ways of communicating the company’s approach internationally: a personal look at the fishing community behind the name, and an independently verified testing standard for its finished supplements.

Ballstad will leverage the origin label to strengthen its market position

The Made in Norway label is a key element of Ballstad’s brand strategy and is featured on all product packaging to highlight Norwegian quality and provenance. It will also be integrated across digital marketing campaigns, websites and B2B presentations to promote the value of Norwegian production.

“Looking ahead, we will continue to use the label actively to strengthen our position as a leading provider of sustainable and pure nutritional supplements,” concludes Olsen.
