The RoomMate patient monitoring system from Sensio uses advanced algorithms to warn of falls and potentially dangerous events, without patients having to carry equipment or trigger alarms themselves.
Europe’s population is ageing, and dementia is becoming more widespread than previously predicted. Providing enough healthcare personnel to look after the elderly is a major challenge, which will intensify in the years ahead. Moreover, people living with dementia are often unable to alert care staff when they experience dangerous events, such as falls.
RoomMate detects and immediately alerts care teams of potentially dangerous situations such as residents sitting up in their bed, leaving their bed, opening doors, falling or calling out for help – without the need for wearable alarms.
The solution RoomMate can also be used for anonymous digital supervision of residents, which safeguards their privacy while allowing care teams to check on them and quickly determine whether they need help.
Sensio’s RoomMate improves the safety of elderly residents, leading to fewer falls, ailments, injuries and hospitalisations. The solution also ensures better sleep due to fewer unnecessary physical interventions. Consequently, care teams experience less stress and require less sick leave.
RoomMate enables municipalities and care groups to reduce costs and improve resource allocation – resulting in a more efficient use of staff and a greater focus on person-centred care.
The RoomMate solution has enormous market potential, as it solves a challenge based on a universal demographic shift: how to care for Europe’s growing elderly population. The remote patient monitoring market is predicted to reach USD 4 billion by 2030, with an annual growth rate of 8.7 per cent.
Sensio has several hundred customers, primarily public sector organisations and municipalities in the Nordic countries and care groups in the UK.
Sensio has been awarded Norway’s official origin label – Made in Norway – for RoomMate and several other products.
