KONGSTEIN is an independent consultancy in offshore wind and offshore grid. “With experience from offshore wind, maritime, and oil and gas, we form professional and versatile teams with an extensive technical and operations background – all committed to accelerating the green shift,” states Torgeir Nærø, CEO of the KONGSTEIN Group.
More than ever, the offshore wind industry needs support to implement winning bids and secure successful project execution. The complex nature of offshore wind projects, the involvement of various stakeholders and the lack of technical expertise require proven technical expertise and close collaboration across the supply chain, which will guide the process and provide adaptive solutions.
KONGSTEIN provides independent consultancy services to the international offshore wind industry. The company offers a wide range of services within project management, technical consultancy and business consultancy. Floating and bottom-fixed wind, ports and offshore grid are particular areas of expertise.
KONGSTEIN plays a key role in offshore wind projects as an Owner’s Engineer. “With our strong technical expertise, we are the perfect match for offshore wind farm developers and transmission system operators (TSOs),” says Nærø.
In addition to numerous floating wind layout and design studies and subsequent tender support, KONGSTEIN has assisted its clients on site during the assembly, towing, installation and maintenance of several projects, including floating wind projects, across several countries and with different types of floaters.
The company has also conducted an evaluation of over 100 ports in 12 countries for its offshore wind clients, based on technical compatibility, availability, commercial and contractual considerations.
In addition to its technical and commercial expertise, KONGSTEIN has a mission to bring more sustainable goals to projects. For instance, the team has conducted assessment studies for carbon reduction measures for offshore wind farms. As one example, its recent study shows how implementing carbon reduction technologies, such as alternative fuels and more eco-friendly steel production, would affect emissions and costs in four areas: fabrication, transport and installation, wind farm location, and costs and risks.
KONGSTEIN offers a strategic geographical benefit. With seven locations worldwide, KONGSTEIN team members can easily relocate or move between offices to be present for clients and projects, including relocation to clients’ offices for more efficient communication and project success.
KONGSTEIN has a diverse team with 10 different nationalities and 10 different native languages, who also speak other languages. This brings KONGSTEIN closer to clients and allows the team to better understand the clients, their corporate culture and requirements, and their project needs.
KONGSTEIN has served a notable number of offshore wind projects, both bottom-fixed and floating.
Many are located in Northern Europe, such as Hywind Tampen, the world’s largest floating offshore wind farm. In addition, the company is involved in Dogger Bank off the coast of England, which will become the world’s largest wind farm when completed. It also works on projects in the Asia-Pacific region, Southern Europe, other parts of the UK and on both US coasts.
“We will move increasingly into floating offshore wind. Considering our size, we are probably the company in Western Europe that has done the most work with floating wind,” says Nærø.
