Becour helps companies to guarantee the origin of their electricity in a way that adds value to their brands, with a transparent digital platform connecting energy users and renewable energy producers.

The demand for renewable energy continues to rise, with increasingly more companies committing to using only renewable energy for their operations. However, the electrical grid is a pool of energy from different sources. It is difficult for companies to ensure and document that the renewable energy they demand is the energy being supplied.

Renewable energy with guaranteed origin for credibility

Becour provides a customer-specific, transparent, peer-to-peer platform enabling energy users to buy renewable energy with guaranteed origin directly from producers, without the need for middlemen.

The platform tracks the level of renewables fed into the grid by producers and the amount that is purchased by its users. This allows companies to document the origin of the electricity they use, and back up their claims that they are paying only for energy generated from renewable sources. It also enables them to document their emissions from use of electricity. By using Becour’s platform, companies can make an impact on the energy system, as energy producers are incentivised to supply the renewable energy that is needed to meet demand.

Becour begins by assessing the company’s energy needs and determining the most cost-effective manner of meeting them. This may include the on-site installation of solar panels, or it may rely entirely on electricity taken from the grid. In either case, Becour helps both the energy supplier and the user to demonstrate accountability.

Concrete benefits

Verifying the source of the electricity taken from the grid requires transparency between the energy producer and the energy user. Becour provides this transparency with a peer-to-peer platform. This in turn allows users to uphold and credibly demonstrate their commitment to increasing renewable energy production and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Market potential

Growing global awareness of the urgency of switching to renewables has spurred both consumers and businesses to demand changes to the way their energy is produced. In response, an increasing number of companies are joining RE100, which is a collaborative, global initiative by businesses committed to using 100 per cent renewable electricity. In line with that commitment is the need to document the source of the power that is being purchased by users. Becour’s platform is the result of nearly 20 years of dedicated work to increase the production of renewable energy and to document the origin of this energy.
