Norway's Maritime Legacy
Green shipping is crucial for achieving the goals of the Paris Agreement and the EU's climate neutrality target by 2050. With its long maritime history, the seafaring nation of Norway has a wealth of expertise to offer when it comes to innovative and sustainable solutions that will drive the green transition in the maritime industry forward. Norway's extensive coastline, one of the longest in the world, has served as a testing ground for new solutions for hundreds of years.
Norwegian Frontrunners
Norwegian shipyards are at the forefront of the industry, surpassing all other shipbuilding nations combined in terms of the share of low and zero-emission vessels constructed. Norwegian ship designers, shipyards, equipment suppliers, shipowners, management companies, and technology developers provide world-leading products, systems, and services.
Norway plays a leading role in the International Maritime Organization's (IMO) efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from ships. It also collaborates with the IMO to assist developing countries in preventing marine pollution and reducing emissions. At SMM, you'll have the opportunity to meet some of Norway's leading companies in the green maritime value chain.
Norway's Comprehensive Green Maritime Ecosystem
Norway boasts a comprehensive value chain and a unique network of regional clusters. Low and zero-emission solutions and corresponding infrastructure for passenger vessels are proven and mature technologies in the Norwegian market, ready for export.
By leveraging its maritime expertise, setting ambitious emission reduction targets, leading in zero and low-emission vessel construction, fostering a comprehensive green maritime ecosystem, providing government support and incentives, and engaging in international collaboration, Norway has established itself as a frontrunner in the development and adoption of green shipping technologies.
