There are incentives and financing schemes for companies established in Norway, especially targeted towards new technologies and sustainability. Below is an overview of these.
Innovation Norway is the official Norwegian trade promotion organisation. It helps Norwegian companies to grow sustainably and increase exports by providing access to competence, capital and networks.
Siva is a governmental enterprise that facilitates a national infrastructure for innovation consisting of incubators, business gardens, catapult centres, innovation enterprises, innovation centres and industrial real estate.
Eksfin is the official export credit agency of Norway and provides state-backed loans and guarantees to Norwegian export companies, international buyers and their banks.
The Research Council distributes more than NOK 11 billion (roughly USD 1 billion) to Norwegian research and innovation projects annually.
Enova allocates funding to Norwegian companies for late-phase technology development and early market introduction of climate and energy solutions.
Gassnova provides funding to projects for development and demonstration of cost-effective solutions for the capture, transport and storage of CO2 (CCS).
SkatteFUNN (Tax Deduction for Research and Development in an Innovative Business Sector) is a rights-based scheme for Norwegian companies, which can apply for a tax deduction for 19% of the costs of an R&D project.
Some Norwegian institutions that offer incentives also provide support with applications for EU funding. Under the Horizon Europe programme, e.g. the Research Council offers support with applications for R&D and innovation project funding, while Innovation Norway offers support with EIC Accelerator applications.
Less populated regions of Norway may offer grants or loans for research and/or development of new products, processes or services in those areas. If you know which part of Norway you are looking to invest in, reach out to the local Innovation Norway office for more information.
